2018 Alfa Romeo Giulia Review; Just Amazing
Road test of the new 2018 Alfa Romeo Giulia. We are faced with a car than those that leave their mark. To begin with the Giulia is back to rear wheel drive (except for the exploits of 8 c and 4 c, that is a separate discussion) and this means not only that you can launch an offensive all over than the German competition, but also that the driving pleasure benefits. The engines are all new and the style is typically Italian, with something of a Maserati. Let’s go to discover in detail.
We start right from the design of the 2018 Alfa Romeo Giulia, an essential element on the cars in this price range, but at the same time also the subject of much discussion in recent times. Some people have said it looks like a Bmw and, in a sense, it is also true when it comes to proportions. With the transition to the rear-drive architecture with longitudinal engine front completely change the proportions: the front overhang is much reduced and the corners of the snout much more “pointy” (even though mitigated by lights that stretches a lot too on the fender, creating a three-dimensional effect), the hood is quite long and the Interior overall is set back towards the traction axle. But the forms are soft and sinuous, nothing to do with the broken lines and sharp style BMW. 2018 Giulia looks almost designed by the wind looking at it from the side, but does not give up to a stronger look as far as the rear lights, which recalls that of the Maserati GranTurismo. Live you appreciate perfectly the excellent proportions of Giulia, as well as its elegance mixed with typical sportsmanship Alfa Romeo DNA. Very good also the coefficient of 0.25, achieved not only with a body well studied, but also with a large fairing underside.
2018 ALFA ROMEO GIULIA INTERIOR AND PERCEIVED QUALITY
The Interior of the 2018 Alfa Romeo Giulia? When we talk about a D-segment sedan premium expectations are very high with regard to the passenger compartment. And add also that the undersigned is a fussy first class when it comes to judging the Interior: so I reinforcement of clinical eye and I’m going to take a look. Let’s start from the door, which is pretty consistent and gives an impression of solidity. We are greeted by a cabin that marks a new beginning within the stylistic course Alfa Romeo. This also plays a lot on the mix of elegance (note the fine leather seats or various aluminium or wood moldings) and sportsmanship (Start button on the steering wheel, dashboard sports graphics, etc.). The Board is made of a horizontal plastic really soft at the top, I daresay the softest of the category. And the soft-touch plastic does not end here, because it is also used for the central band, the side walls of the central tunnel and to the top of the door panel. Someone at the Geneva Motor Show 2016 complained because the lower part of the bridge is of hard plastic: place it in the category are all like that, but have you ever realized how would last with all the streaks with shoes?
We continue with the analysis of details: all uprights are covered with fabric (some competitors have only the A-pillars with this treatment), the tray in front of the passenger is covered in Velvet in order not to create noise with internal objects and air vents and button feedback is valuable. Very well done, finally, the double seals on doors and in General seem accurate and robust assemblies. I can assure you that is not afraid of comparisons with Mercedes C-class, Bmw 3 Series or Audi A4, in spite of what anyone says.
Speaking of size, the Alfa Romeo Giulia is one of the most compact D-segment, all without going to affect internal measures. 4639 length mm, width of 1873 mm contained in 1426 mm and a generous wheelbase of 2820 mm. Well-finished trunk, which has a capacity of 480 litres with the rear seats in place.
2018 Alfa Romeo Giulia Specs and Engine
The Alfa Romeo in its history has always been at the forefront of mechanics. To return to former glory, engineers decided to start with a blank sheet of paper for the development of the new rear-drive platform George from which will emerge most new future models. -Suspension scheme is very valuable and predicts a quadrilateral top up front, with steering axle semi-virtual that optimizes the filtering effect and helps to steer accurately, and a four-arm multilink rear and middle (christened Alpha Link). Much work has been done on the containment of the weights, so you get superior performance to competitors at comparable times. Very interesting the “Integrated Braking System (IBS), a brake-by-wire that is able to operate the individual calipers via a control unit which reads the driver’s pedal load. The range revolves around three engines. The new 2.0-litre petrol engine is a four cylinder in-line engine built entirely in aluminium. Among the peculiarities of this engine-hydraulic valve actuation system, MultiAir, the 2-in-1 “turbocharger system e direct injection with high-pressure 200 bar system, which translates into an answer especially ready to throttle controls in learning and working in a remarkable fuel efficiency. The maximum power is 200 horsepower at 5,000 rpm with a torque of 330 Nm at 1,750 rpm, and the combination is with the new 8-speed automatic transmission. Will come into the market later than the commercial launch.
Completely new is the unprecedented 2.2 litre Turbodiesel, the first diesel Alfa Romeo history built entirely in aluminum. It is a four cylinder characterized by generation MultiJet injection system II with Injection Rate Shaping (IRS) to reduce roughness and noise levels and operating pressures of 2,000 bar. The electric actuated variable geometry turbocharger represents the State of the art of mechanics and minimizes response time ensuring, at the same time, benefits in terms of efficiency. The finest standards of comfort and driving experience are also guaranteed by the use of balancing countershaft. There are two versions, respectively with 179 HP at 3,750 RPM (maximum torque of 450 Nm at 1,750 RPM) and 150 HP at 4,000 rpm (380 nm at 1,500 rpm). For both configurations – combined with rear-wheel drive 8-speed automatic transmission are available – or, Alternatively, that six-speed manual transmission. In terms of performance, the 150 horsepower accelerates from 0 to 100 mph in 8.4 seconds (8.2 seconds for the automatic version) and rises to 220 km/h, while the 0 to 100 km/180 snaps from horses in 7.2 seconds (6.8 automatic) and rises to 230 km/h. The flagship of the range is the four-leaf clover, equipped with twin-turbo V6 2.9. Inspired by technologies and technical skills 6-cylinder Twin-Turbo petrol engine, Ferrari is totally in aluminium – to reduce the absolute weight of the car, especially one on the front axle – and delivers 510 HP and a torque of more than 600 Nm, offering exciting performance: top speed of 307 km/h, acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.9 seconds. Among other things, although the values of power and torque are sensational, the 2.9 BiTurbo gasoline from 510 HP is best in class in emissions (198 g/km of CO2 with 6-speed manual transmission, with the current round of approval in force) and is surprisingly fuel efficient, thanks to cylinder deactivation system with electronic control.
2018 Alfa Romeo Giulia Road test ; MANUAL AND AUTOMATIC TURBO DIESEL
GIULIA TURBODIESEL MANUAL now, after knowing in detail how this Giulia, let’s finally get behind the wheel. The first version I feel is the 2.2 Turbodiesel 180 HP with six-speed manual transmission in progress. The driving position is quite low as befits a car from raciness, but due to the large seat adjustments everyone manages to conveniently locate the accommodation that best suits them (shame about the backrest adjustment lever). Then the starter button on the steering wheel is simply spectacular: sure, it’s just a detail, but it really is. Even on a simple Giulia diesel. We put in motion and we start: the clutch is very light, but not for this waiver to provide good feedback to the drive. The gearbox is precise and dry, maybe a hair grafts too even for those who want a more relaxed driving, but it is a matter of personal taste. The earliest metres behind the wheel of the julii what you appreciate is the steering. We’re talking about a really precise command, which allows you to sew exactly every trajectory that goes through your mind. But be careful, because this does not at all mean that the flying load is excessive.
On the contrary, the power assistance is just perfect: light the right at low speeds, larger by increasing the pace. You never think “wants a different feedback”, so to speak. And then there’s the trim. Let’s start by saying that already seen suspensive scheme that can boast as we have just seen, the conditions are all there. And expectations are fully satisfied by a car which is literally glued to the ground when cornering, despite heavy rain of our test. Even taking the curves very upbeat on the front end is firmly planted, seems to go on, and does not mention it for the understeer. The latter, however, in spite of the rear wheel drive not easily loses the grip, but even when this happens comes the precise intervention of ESP to get us back on track. The excellent roadholding is not to affect the ride comfort, because any unevenness of the ground is absorbed really well, very silent work (actually, there is minimal noise) and precise even shock absorbers. And already there are rumours of comfort we can say that the soundproofing is very accurate, and that the external environment than that of the engine. And that includes motorway driving, where the noise more annoying during the test was due to the pouring rain, but either way you could talk without yelling.
About engine, the 2.2 Turbodiesel is an all new engine with aluminum crankcase, well balanced in terms of vibrations. Is silent in its operation and especially to appreciate it for the smooth power delivery. Forget the “kick in the pants”, because on the Giulia Turbodiesel has opted for a uniform provision very similar to that found on the German competitors. At first feeling can almost seem that resume shortly, but just look at the speedometer to notice that they are already at very high speeds. The power seems to be the correct one for a D-segment sedan, just enough to move with verve, with sufficient thrust for overtaking without lose sleep. I have to spend even words of praise for braking, which has proved safe even with so much water on the asphalt. The 2018 Alfa Romeo Giulia stops in very short stopping distances, even at high speeds. And the brake by wire system in my opinion is very well managed, because it returns a substantial feedback on the pedal, without any kind of drumming when you activate the ABS.
GIULIA AUTOMATIC TURBO DIESEL
At this point I get off the Giulia Super blue Monte Carlo with manual transmission, to get a 180-horsepower 2.2 Turbo diesel, Giulia always white but this time with the automatic transmission. This is a pairing that surely will have much success, because the eight-speed ZF transmission makes driving extremely comfortable and relaxed. If you drive in a calm manner, or otherwise normal, changing from one gear to the other almost not perceived (100 ms): don’t you feel shock or loss of power. Just then, force a bit his hand to understand how performant in terms of pure performance. If you accelerate a Tablet you gain speed that is a beauty, with a stick inserted one by one with just a hint of hit back each time, even though it is asking for the maximum. And the manettino DNA? I mean, it’s nice because it allows you to adjust the main functions of the car (steering wheel, shifter, throttle response, etc.), although I must admit that my preferred way remains Dynamic. Not just because it fits the type of car, but also because it gets nervous at all. He can be brilliant, but without neglecting the comfort. The automatic transmission also has function of sailing to save ourselves some money fuel when traveling at a constant speed, type on the highway. And the chapter consumption I can say that I felt that Julia Turbodiesel power which has little power consumption, even if it was only a first contact. Driving really loud you make 8 liters per 100 km, which lowers smoothly with a more regular and insightful. So, in conclusion, the suggestion is to try it. The new 2018 Alfa Romeo Giulia is a car that deserves to be driven, to understand the excellent work done by the team of engineers who worked on the development of the car.
Starting from the basic version, the 2018 Alfa Romeo Giulia offers a very rich standard equipment: Start button on the steering wheel, leather steering wheel, front seats to 6 clustered 3.5 TFT display adjustments, ″, ″ 16 inch alloy wheels, aluminium brake callipers, fog lights, LED tail lights, Alpha Connect Radio system with 6.5-inch display, Bluetooth and Autonomous Emergency Brake (AEB) with pedestrian recognition Start, Stop, and Forward Collision Warning (FCW), Integrated Brake System (IBS), dual-zone automatic climate control, Lane Departure Warning (LDW), cruise control, rain sensor and lights, electric parking brake. The exhibition Super adds leather seats and fabric, aluminum, 17-inch alloy wheels, rear parking sensors and GPS.
