2019 Ford EcoSport 4x4 Dimensions & Changes

Here is The New 2019 Ford EcoSport 4×4. We have tried the unprecedented Ford EcoSport in AWD version, remaining pleasantly impressed by the behavior both on the road and on the light offroad.

An urban Suv on offroad? Hard to imagine since most are only front wheel drive, but the Ford EcoSport 4×4, from the look, has always shown his vocation Fuoristradistica, even if the restyling of 2018 has deprived him of the rear wheel attached to the tailgate That recalled the classic 4×4. With the arrival on the market of the AWD version, available only with 125 horsepower 1.5 turbodiesel engine and 6-speed manual gearbox, we were able to prove that even on offroad, in spite of the clichés, it is also quite good.

The EcoSport AWD completes the offer of all-wheel-drive sports utilities of the Blue Oval alongside Kuga and Edge. We have tested the version equipped with the rich ST Line, first on the road going towards the beautiful Conca Ampezzo Cortina, then on offroad on the slopes that in winter host thousands of skiers.

2019 Ford EcoSport 4X4 Redesign Exterior & Interior

The restyling presented in the last edition of the Frankfurt Motor Show has led to an update that goes far beyond the simple facelift, proposing novelties at 360 degrees ranging from the cockpit to the mechanics, passing through the fittings, which see the ST Line’s debut. The aesthetic innovations are mainly concentrated on the front, now more expressive and gritty with the new enlarged mask and the new optical groups with LED daytime running lights. The proven version was just an EcoSport 1.5 TDCi 125 Horsepower Start & Stop in ST Line construction, recognizable outside for the Body styling kit that includes the front grille with honeycomb, the fog lights with black frame and the specific badge. They close the rim roof, uprights and black contrasting mirrors, black glove bars, tinted windows and alloy wheels from 17 ″  (18 ″ inches available in option).

A lot of news also regarding the interiors, updated with the touch display of 8 ″ inches, with the heated sports steering wheel and the premium B&O PLAY audio system. From the display and the keys on the steering wheel races, it is possible to manage the functions of the Ford Sync 3 infotainment system, compatible with Apple car Play and Android Auto. Reduced to the essentials are the keys on the dashboard, where there are no shortage of USB and 12 V sockets. The habitability remained the same compared to the outgoing model, remaining good for four adults while in five it is a bit ‘ tight. Good the 365 liters of the capacity of the trunk for the daily load requirements, with the very low load threshold, but the lateral opening of the tailgate creates some difficulty in the narrow spaces. Among the faults, we can also include the little capacity of the storage compartments in front of the passenger seat and on the central tunnel.

2019 Ford EcoSport 4X4 AWD Test Drive

Although it has grown by 9 cm compared to the previous model, touching 409 cm altitude, EcoSport always offers a comfortable guide in terms of maneuverability and comfort. The sporty trim ST-Line also authorizes some forcing cornering, since the car offers the sensation of being always well planted on the ground and the steering is direct and quite precise. The absorption of road asperities is good, but compared to other fittings, with softer suspensions, the greater rigidity is felt above all at the acoustic level. The response of the 1.5 TDCi 125 Hp to the accelerator’s stresses is not immediate, but offers good progression and demonstrates great resilience in recovery. In more difficult conditions Ford Intelligent All-Wheel-Drive technology comes into play, which senses the level of grip of the wheels and transfers the torque distribution up to 50/50 between the rear and front axle, adapting it in just 20 Milliseconds. Once we arrived in Cortina, we tested its efficacy on a ski slope of the cliff traveled uphill using road tires on rims from 18 ″. Going up in colonnades, it often happened to have to stop at points where it was instead advisable to crush the gas pedal thoroughly to overcome the obstacle. No problem with the restart, with straight wheels EcoSport, always found traction to overcome the impasse and always offers the sensation of full control with a directionality that never fails. In some cases, it is true that you are forced to work a bit with the clutch, but you do it in points that most of the B-SUVs on the market could never face.

The event also had the noble aim of bringing a new experience to a group of visually impaired children through “Feel The View”, a technology that has now arrived at the final stages of development that makes it possible to make the beauty of the panoramas accessible to all. The prototype, developed by the startup Aedo with startup or of Ford, once attached to the window is able to decode the panorama allowing the blind and visually impaired to hear it with the fingertips. Feel the View transforms the photos taken by the camera integrated into atypical sensory stimuli, not visible but perceptible through touch and hearing. The photo taken is converted to a high-contrast grayscale image. The image is then reproduced on the window glass thanks to the use of special LEDs. At the touch of the user, Feel the View causes small stresses on the point of the window concerned, which occur in perceived vibrations. These vibrations can have as much as 255 degrees of intensity: the lower the grayscale, the greater the intensity of the vibration. This way, by exploring the entire window, you can imagine and reconstruct in mind the panorama that you are looking at. Seeing the moved faces of those who have tried it, we can say that it really works and will have a much lower price than any Braille decoding system.
