Test on the road of the 2019 Ford Tourneo Custom with engine 2.0 EcoBlue 170 HP. Our opinions, the price, the technical sheet, and the dimensions.
Road test of the Ford Tourneo Custom 2.0 EcoBlue 170 HP – Dice van and probably one of the first names that come to mind is Ford Transit. In the last few years the whole range of Ford’s commercial vehicles is called Transit, but then there is a further name to decline the various versions. Courier is the smallest, then there is the Connect, the Custom and the biggest of all that is simply called Transit. The Custom is that of length around 5 meters.
The versions with seats (and not van, therefore) replace the Transit name with that of Tourneo. Aesthetically, the Ford Tourneo Custom is dynamic, with highly machined and ribbed sheet metal parts. Undoubtedly stands out in its category for a decidedly refined and captivating look.
In this sense, it is even more aggressive in the eye-catching Sports version (that of our road test), which adds side skirts, alloy wheels of 17 “bicolored diamonds and contrasting stripes along the bumper, hood, roof, and tailgate. It certainly does not go unnoticed.
The interior of the 2019 Ford Tourneo Custom is very spacious, but at the same time very rational in the arrangement of the various elements. The central console is massive and adopts a system of infotainment of automotive derivation: it is the same “tablet style” that we also find on the Ford brand cars. The Sports set-up includes standard black leather and fabric seats. The construction quality is taken care
2019 Ford Tourneo Custom Engine Specs
The 2019 Ford Tourneo Custom has the most classic mechanical setting, without surprises of its kind. The front suspension is independent with a McPherson scheme and coil springs, stabilizer bar and gas shock absorbers. At the rear are a rigid bridge with leaf springs and gas shock absorbers. Optionally, you can also have pneumatic rear suspensions, which keep the height from the ground unchanged regardless of the load.
The engine range of the 2019 Ford Tourneo Custom revolves around the new 2.0-liter turbocharged engine EcoBlue, which in the version of our test develops a maximum output of 170 horsepower and 405 Nm of torque, but there are also versions of 105 hp and 360 Nm or 130 hp and 385 Nm. The standard six-speed manual transmission is standard, while the six-speed automatic is available as an option for the 130 and 170 hp versions.
Another very interesting point concerns periodic maintenance. Ford has worked hard to minimize vehicle stoppages: the new 2.0 turbodiesel is designed for maintenance intervals carried up to a maximum of 2 years or 60,000 km. Engine technology takes several factors into account, including oil quantity and quality, engine load, temperature, and speed, to ensure that maintenance is performed only when it is really needed.

2019 Ford Tourneo Custom Interior
What does Ford Tourneo Custom Sport offer as standard? In addition to the sporty aesthetic characterization of which we have already mentioned, and to the mixed leather seats there is also a 10-way electric driver’s seat. Also fitted as standard are the tinted rear windows, the “Quickclear” heated windscreen, the rain and headlights sensors, the perimeter alarm and the separate air conditioning system for the rear compartment.
But from the point of view of active safety technology? The equipment must be supplemented with options. Additional charges can be added: Lane-Keeping Alert with Driver Alert, rear camera with Hitch Assist Trailer, automatic high beam, Adaptive Cruise Control, Intelligent Speed Assist, and Blind Spot Assist.
For payment, there is also the SYNC 3 Navigation System infotainment system with radio controls on the steering wheel, dual USB socket, emergency call, 8 “touchscreen display, voice recognition, engine sound enhancement, and active noise control.
Real World Test
So we come to the test drive that has seen us protagonists of a test drive with the restyling of Ford Turner Custom driven by the 2.0 diesel 170 hp EcoBlue engine with 6-speed automatic transmission. The peculiarity of this premium commercial vehicle in addition to that of presenting itself with a renewed aesthetic and decidedly more engaging than the previous one is that of respecting the habitability standards and extreme simplicity in driving. In particular, the advent of SYNC 3 and interiors that are reflected in those of the new Fiesta and the new EcoSport give thanks to the 2019 version that offer a driving sensation equal to that of a car. At the wheel of the new Tourneo Custom if it were not for the high position it would seem to drive a sedan to all intents and purposes. The presence of the air conditioner and the mixed leather fabric interior of undisputed value stands out. The engine already proposed in the 2017 version is very silent, but definitely more elastic and performing, with the presence of the automatic transmission essential to give a plus of dynamism and a fun of driving almost unexpected.
But the spectacle of this 2019 Ford Tourneo Custom is found by opening the rear sliding doors. First of all, two and no longer one with the possibility of accessing the 6 comfortable rear seats on both sides. And you find yourself in a comfortable “living room” with single stations, 6 air-conditioning vents controllable directly by the passengers, who can decide how to adjust intensity and temperature, 4 USB attacks for charging your smartphone and carrying bottles placed at the corners of two rows of seats, each provided with a seat belt. Darkened windows and sunshade curtains are the icing on the cake.
The seats are modular, so you can unhook them repositioning them all in the front orientation and not like in photos where the central row has rearward orientation. In addition, the last row can be “canceled” by overturning the clam seats and creating a boot with a screaming load. The negative note is the tailgate which, like the previous one, is heavy to open and has no electrical control. On this, in our opinion, Ford should intervene to facilitate its use.
In Tourneo Custom road offers performance worthy of a compact minivan. The 170 hp is more than enough to give brio and a significant boost to this commercial vehicle that clearly has an important weight. We record a bit of “elastic” in the accelerations when the front pulls almost 5 meters for the heir of the Transit that in its DNA is devoted to comfort and certainly not to performance. In the valleys and its bumps you have to avoid making the bright ones because the shock absorbers are calibrated to return a better control of the vehicle and inside “jump”. The steering is noted for a well-balanced weight, not too light and impeccably sets every trajectory, especially in the corners where the mass is felt. And a note of merit to the braking system with which you immediately have an extreme feeling. Soft and with a progressive and efficient locking.
And then how Ford has accustomed us in the last few years, a lot of technology to help the driver. Blind angle sensor in the rear-view mirrors, alert safety distance, and track sensor is among the main features of this sporty version of Tourneo Custom. On-board computer that lets us read all consumption data and the unique SYNC 3 infotainment system complete the picture.
Consumption that thanks to a latest-generation EcoBlue engine are extremely interesting. On a mixed circuit this engine consumes 11 liters per 100 km, but on the highway, with a regular pace at 2,500 rpm, you can easily do the 9 every 100 km. But you should check at full load, or with all 8 places occupied. In any case, we talk about excellent consumption recorded.
The New Ford Tourneo Custom has a list price starting from 30,500 euros (excluding VAT) in the basic Trend version combined with the 2.0-liter EcoBlue turbodiesel 105 hp engine. The 170 hp Sports trial version with automatic transmission has a price list of 35,350 euros, excluding VAT and optional extras.
