It’s called Volvo XC60 2019 and we had the pleasure of doing a long test drive of the car between the Bolognese hills. Price, spec sheet, size and our opinion of the road test.

With the arrival of the new generation, the average SUV of the Swedish manufacturer is renewed deeply, to look more like the older brother Volvo XC90, both as design and as quality. On board we find ourselves in a very well cared and refined environment, so as not to regret that of no rival. From the great family there is also the platform, as well as a large number of assistive assistance devices that greatly increase safety on the road and maneuvers. We had the likes to do a long test drive of Volvo X60 with the D4 diesel engine powered by 190 horsepower, in the top set-up of the inscription range. Standard on all wheel drive and 8-speed sequential automatic transmission. Let’s find out in the detail in the test drive.
Exterior and Interior Redesign
Crossing on the road is easy to exchange for the Volvo XC90. The front of the Volvo XC60 2019 is in fact characterized by the optical groups “Thor Hammer” (full led and with an assistant to the dazzling) and the large grille, similar to that of the elder sister. Gritty the design of the lower part of the bumper, which integrates the LED fog lights (optional). The large alloy rims, available up to 21 inches in diameter, are noted in the side, and are housed in the wheel muscle. The ascending belt line gives a sense of solidity to the lateral side of the car, marked in the doors by a trapezoidal rib of reverse shape to that on the miniskirts. Elegant, but at the same time sporty, the rear, dominated by the “L” shaped led optical groups: together with the wheel, make the average SUV of the Nordic House seem more planted on the ground. Sitting inside the XC60 2019 you will remain open-mouthed, thanks to the minimalist design and the high-level finishes. Dashboard coverings, seats, door panels and tunnels are treated like a flagship. The plank develops horizontally, but is dominated in the center by the large 9-inch screen positioned vertically. Thanks to the touch screen you can scroll through the many functions of the infotainment system, as well as the menu of the powerful air conditioning system. To command the latter we would have preferred the classic keys on the console, certainly more practical to locate at the first shot (maybe to activate in a short time the recirculation).
The central tunnel clearly separates the two front seats and contains two practical storage compartments, one of which is closed by an elegant damper. Nice to see and to grip the three-spoke steering wheel, equipped with intuitive controls in use. The 12.3 ″ Digital instrument panel, despite being crammed with information, is clear to be consulted with modern graphics.
Comfortable leather seats (front ones are equipped with electrical adjustments) and space in all directions: the occupants are pampered even in the most stressful travels, we always move with maximum comfort.
Volvo XC60 2019 Dimension and Trunk Capcity
We discover the size of Volvo XC60. The modular SPA platform has made it gain centimeters in length, precious to increase the space on board and take the step at a height of 2 meters and 86. VOLVO XC60 2019, Engines: only 4 cylinders
Contrary to the competition, as for VOLVO engines, it has focused on the same pattern: 4 cylinders in line and 2 litres of displacement. In order to achieve performance up to a weight ranging from 1740 to over 2000 kg, Swedish engineers have worked skillfully on turbochargers, achieving good results also in terms of consumption and emissions. At gasoline we find the T5 from 254 horsepower and the T6 from 320, both capable of sports performance. The least powerful accelerates from 0 to 100 in 6.8 seconds and reaches a maximum speed of 220 kilometers per hour, the other instead takes 5.9 seconds to touch 100 per hour and reaches 230 km/h. Ecologists will focus on the T8 hybrid, which is strong with a total power of 408 horsepower. The diesel supply sees the D4 (engine of the car in test) from 190 horsepower and the D5 from 235 horses.
Volvo XC60 is available in three different productions: Business, R-Design and inscription. Excellent for all standard equipment, which includes driver knee airbag, disabled passenger airbag, ISOFIX attacks, anti-hit sleep alert, roof bars, automatic bizone climate (optional the Quadrizona), downhill speed control, Drive Lane maintenance device, full LED headlamps with automatic beams, automatic emergency braking, navigator, aux/USB/Bluetooth radio, Electrically adjustable front seats, split rear seat, steering gear Variable assistance, road signs recognition camera, digital instrument panel and much more. It’s finally time to get behind the wheel of the new Volvo XC60 2019 and start our test on the road. On board we are welcomed by the interiors of very light color and elegant extremely but above all of great quality. The seats are comfortable, the space is in abundance. In front of us the completely digital dashboard, while in the center of the bridge stands the huge touch screen vertically. There are few buttons to crush, this makes the interiors extremely clean, although sometimes you do not know well where to find the commands you are looking for. Let’s light the engine and go. The car that we have in test is the D4 from 190 horsepower, an engine that does not enter at all in the cockpit: The car is extremely quiet, the interiors are isolated to perfection.
What to say: the password is comfort. The car driving is super cozy, it is perfect to do a lot of kilometers. The suspensions work in the direction of comfort, you drive in a pleasant way. There are four different modes settable, from that eco to the sporty, which uses the most remarkable performance of the car. Yes, because despite being an SUV with an important size, this Volvo XC60 has excellent acceleration and peak speed numbers, although sportsmanship is certainly not its primary feature. Also the steering is not communicative, although it is fast in the direction changes.
As mentioned, the new Volvo XC60 is of big size, which however does not even weigh in the city. Noteworthy is the software of the cameras: in addition to the rear one you can have the 360 °, also you can also choose some camera watch. And then you can not talk about the many systems of assistance to the guide: even when we do not realize, they work, and act when needed.
As far as consumption is concerned, more than 10 km with one litre is difficult to make in the city, 12 km with a litre on the highway.
In conclusion the Volvo XC60 is a completely new machine, despite being the older sister of the XC90 and remembers it practically in all. But he has personalities to sell and gifts from a great traveler. A fantastic alternative to luxury German.
