2020 Suzuki Swift Hybrid Design – New Look
Compared to the past generation, the new Suzuki Swift has taken giant steps in terms of design, so much that it has completely changed and is set in a completely new and original in the eyes of those who look at it. The lines of the body are on the whole rounded, almost “comfortable”, but without neglecting some muscle that has been highlighted especially in the area of the wheel arches. The wide and inclined windshield allows to have a sufficient glazed surface, but above all it begins to give life to that idea of suspended roof that has been pursued by the designers: all the uprights are black, in contrast with the body color, so that indeed the roof seems to float comfortably on the rest of the car. One of the most interesting aspects of a car like the new Suzuki Swift Hybrid is the technology that is on board because objectively it seems to be in a car of a higher segment. There is no talk of driving assistance systems, such as adaptive cruise control, automatic high beam headlights or emergency braking, but the display at the center of the instrumentation is also full of information. Among all, we could cite the power and torque instantly used, or how much are pressing the accelerator and brake, but the menus available are many and also include the management of battery charging of what is the hybrid system.

Sitting on board the new Suzuki Swift Hybrid, one gets the impression that almost nothing is missing from the appeal and that we can easily make up for any need, but the idea of being inexpensive plastics is always there. They are not a soft touch but they are hard to the touch, a factor that certainly does not help the perception of quality once the hand has passed, but if you start looking at them in the “just do your job” look, then it becomes impeccable. The driver’s seat has a classic city car seat, with no special wings that envelop the pelvis and the back, while the multi-function steering wheel is definitely of good quality, a factor that helps you to enjoy driving much better. The large crown allows greater relaxation and better comfort while driving while the keys are all easily accessible and arranged intuitively. At the center of the dashboard, where colored inserts also live that finally break the monotony of the plastic, there is the touchscreen display of the infotainment, exactly above the controls of the manual air conditioning that are divided into three knobs.
Suzuki Swift Hybrid is a medium hybrid. It means that it has an electric motor but it is not powerful enough to move the car in complete autonomy. Practically able to give a handful of horses thanks to the energy stored in the battery placed under the driver’s seat, so that the engine is subjected to a lower effort during acceleration and therefore consume less. The accumulation of energy takes place in the classic ways that we have already seen on other types of cars, therefore also with the recovery of energy during braking.
It’s finally time to get behind the wheel of our New Suzuki Swift Hybrid and start the test drive. We open the door and find the interior that resumes the vein of the other Suzuki, Ignis in the first place. Nice the steering wheel and the dashboard modern, nice the part above the bridge, a little ‘less than the bottom, made of different parts very cheap. The touchscreen with the navigator and the various infotainment functions inside it are in the center. There is a good space inside Suzuki Swift, even behind it is comfortable even in three. We turn on the engine and we leave.
Our car is powered by the 1.0, three-cylinder, 112-hp SHVS. Suzuki’s hybrid we talked a lot about Test, it should be remembered that this is a hybrid car without an automatic transmission. There is no real electric motor that drives the “full-electric” car. There is a small engine that has different functions: the starter motor, alternator, but above all to support the petrol engine. The aim is simple: to support the thermal engine in different cases, to increase performance and reduce consumption.
The electric part is not heard at high speed, it comes into play instead with the Start & Stops that works well, and accelerating. It’s a light car with a brilliant engine. The 2020 Suzuki Swift Hybrid is fun to drive: the engine responds already from low revs, the gearbox is well maneuvered, the steering is light and homogeneous. Maybe a little ‘too soft, it bounces in the road troughs.
It is a car with a nice design and excellent driveability. With this engine, it proves quick and fun in the city. Good space on board, good comfort for all passengers. And then there is matriculation as a hybrid that does not hurt. In contrast, a little roomy trunk and interior a bit ‘too cheap with respect to competitors.

In order to take home the new Suzuki Swift in a hybrid version, we need a check for almost 18,000 euros. Not exactly a price expected from a car in this segment, but considering the technology behind it and the fuel economy could be justified.
