2020 Volvo V60 Cross Country – All You Need to Know From This Wagon
After the launch of the standard version, it is time for Volvo to launch the 2020 Volvo V60 Cross Country. All the info on the new Swedish car.
After having already released some official images before the debut, Volvo lifted the veil from the Volvo V60 Cross Country, unveiling which we attended at the Volvo Studio in Milan. It is flanked by the standard version and will initially be launched with a diesel engine and a petrol engine, but subsequently, a hybrid version will also arrive.
There was a time when the definition of “XC” in Volvo was reserved just for Cross Country (which is an acronym in practice). Cars with the ability to leave the asphalt and drive on dirt roads or even slightly more challenging, like the 2020 Volvo V60 Cross Country that we saw live in preview in Milan. Historic is the Volvo V70 Cross Country of 1996, just to mention one of the most famous specimens, but over time – since the 2000s – the destiny of the XC abbreviation has changed, indicating the entire range of SUV produced by the Swedish company.
However, because in Volvo are not exactly willing to abandon the possibility of offering “normal” cars that can juggle with a certain agility even off-road, here is that this kind of models has reserved the initials “Cross Country” indicated in full. However, apart from the historical key, we at AllaGuida.it have witnessed the first physical reveal of the new wagon of the Swedish brand, which until now had spread, even in an official way, exclusively the photos.
2020 Volvo V60 Cross Country Design – Dimensions, Features & More
The design key is this V60 Cross Country version is a mix between the line of the standard version and those typical features that try to protect the car when you leave the safety of the asphalt behind, such as the black perimeter bandages that also climb along the whole profile of the wheel arch. This also includes a height from the ground significantly increased compared to the Volvo V60, in sizes between 60 and 75 mm depending on the equipment and rims equipped, but we do not find any protection for the bumper.
No skid plate then, neither forward nor behind, but on the other hand, there are four-wheel drive on all models and the Four-C suspension with constant electronic control, to avoid unwanted reactions. all the other styles already seen for the road sister have been maintained, then the classic hammer of Thor, the God of Swedish culture, inspired the position lights in the headlights while the front bumper is a mix of curved surfaces and corner sections that alternate to create an almost ethereal aesthetic. At the rear, the light clusters extend horizontally on the boot lid but shyly extend along the C-pillars, until they reach the top of the rear window and almost directly join the spoiler.
As we are talking about a premium brand it is clear that once on board the feeling of quality must be high. The facings, the inserts, the clean organization of the controls and the diamond-faceted keys on the central tunnel let you perceive exactly the idea of being on a car of a certain level. Volvo with this V60 Cross Country seems to have wanted to suggest lightness and tranquility, linearity but at the same time the strength necessary to be able to launch on mountain roads without fear.
2020 Volvo V60 Cross Country Engine Specs
The constructive base is the SPA platform, common to the 90 and 60 range, born already with the idea of being subsequently electrified. Subsequently because at the moment of the launch will be only two engines available for the 2020 Volvo V60 Cross Country, both 4-cylinder inline 2-liter: a 250-horsepower T5 petrol and a 190-horsepower D4 diesel. In the second moment, a hybrid version will arrive which will allow to reduce consumption and exploit an electric motor for traction.
Volvo is historically synonymous of active and passive safety, so it is unthinkable that a new exit, the one that completes the renewal of the range and that leaves the V40 only to the previous generation, does not have the maximum expression of the technology developed in this sense.
Brakes alone in case of danger but even steering to try as much as possible to avoid a collision, bypassing the reaction times and the panic that a motorist could experience in an emergency situation. Obviously with the automatic emergency braking “sees” pedestrians, cyclists and even animals of a certain size, then takes control and avoids or mitigates the impact, but the car also tries to avoid the unintentional road exit by applying a steering, while in case there is nothing more to do “prepare” the interior for an imminent impact.
Then there is the Pilot Assist, the assisted driving that interfaces the well-defined road markings with the maps of the navigator and helps to follow the road as long as the driver’s hands remain on the steering wheel. We are not yet in the presence of real autonomous driving and therefore, remember, it is not possible – even legislatively speaking – to leave the steering wheel completely.
2020 Volvo V60 Cross Country is a model that aims to contribute to the significant increase in sales and the flourishing period that Volvo is experiencing, so much so that it has been growing uninterruptedly for 4 years and this 2018 sets new sales records. We started from 2014 and its nearly 466 thousand Volvo sold to reach more than 571 thousand in 2017, moreover with a margin on profits that is always on the rise and that, therefore, allows you to have liquidity for further investments.
