Officially opened the commercialization of the BMW i8 Roadster 2020, the German hybrid sports from 374 horsepower to maximum power. New mechanics, content, and design.
After the absolute premiere at the last car show in Los Angeles 2017, the BMW i8 Roadster 2020 officially enters on sale in May 2018. To celebrate the occasion, the propeller House has circulated new official images of the car and has released more information about it.
The Roadster variant is also flanked by the renewed version of the normal BMW i8 coupe and can also count on a wide use of lightweight materials (including aluminum and carbon fiber) to hold the maximum weight. Remember that the i8 range is renowned for being sporty, but attentive to the environment thanks to its hybrid powertrain.
From the aesthetic point of view, the new i8 Roadster does not deviate from the stylistic language of the closed version, but it lacks unique details, such as the writings dedicated to the C-pillar. The doors open upward and the roof is on canvas and is retractable electrically in just 15 seconds, up to a speed of 50 km/h.
Compared to the coupe, the uncovered version is not a 2+2 but has a cockpit for only two passengers. This means that you can enjoy the wind in the hair only in pairs, but also that the space behind the seats has been exploited to obtain a volume to stow any objects.
BMW i8 Roadster 2020 New Features; BMW e-Drive
Both on the BMW i8 Roadster 2020 and on the coupe, BMW E-Drive technology has been optimized. In a nutshell, the number of situations in which the electric motor is solely responsible for the vehicle’s gear is increased, reducing overall consumption and emissions. In addition, the battery pack grows in its capacity, going from the previous 20 ah to the 34 AH: This allows the electric motor to have more energy available, but also allowed the German engineers to increase the maximum power of 9 KW/12 hp. In this way, the peak power of the electric unit is, now, 105 KW/143 hp (250 Nm of torque).
In this way, the BMW i8 Roadster can travel up to 53 km in 100% electric mode, while the coupe up to 55 km, reaching a maximum speed of 105 km/h.
The new BMW i8 coupe and Roadster combine the synchronous electric motor with a three-cylinder 1.5-liter turbocharged 231 HP and 320 Nm in-line engine: The endothermic motor transfers its power to the rear wheels via a six-speed Steptronic gearbox. While the electric actuates the front axle wheels by means of an automatic two-speed gearbox. Overall, therefore, the BMW i8 is the full-wheel drive.
Overall the power is 374 hp (275 KW), with notable performance: The BMW i8 Coupe accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.4 seconds, while the BMW i8 Roadster stops the stopwatch at 4.6 seconds. For both, the maximum speed is electronically limited to 250 km/h.
To debut also (for the first time on a series car) of the front optical groups with laser technology. The BMW Laserlight optical groups have the Selective beam system, which direction the light beam according to the needs and can be lit up to 600 meters further: about twice the depth of the full LED headlights standard on the normal versions Of the i8 coupe and Roadster.
The price of the BMW i8 Roadster 2020 in around 163,270 euros.
