At the Los Angeles Motor Show 2017 debuts BMW i8 Roadster ready for release on the market. The 30 Ah battery allows you to harness 12 more horsepower from the electric motor
It is not a simple transformation from coupe to convertible, that of BMW i8 Roadster 2018. It brings with it an update of the technical data sheet that also affects the closed version. debuted at the Los Angeles Show, the i8 Roadster and first confirms the opening system of the doors to the association, hinged at the base of the bulkhead between the door and front upright. No window frame, for obvious reasons. The substantial difference: a fabric top, with electric drive – even in gear, up to 50 km/h – that folds perpendicularly into space in the frame, in the area of the fins with integrated rollbar, behind the seats.
It takes 15 seconds for the opening of the hood and, once the operation is complete, the rear window rises to 30 millimeters to perform better the role of the wind deflector. The Hybrid roadster mounts an electric motor on the front axle and a thermal engine, three cylinders turbo gasoline from 1.5 liters, at the rear.
They are 231 horsepower and 320 nm of torque developed by the latter, to which add the 143 horsepower and 250 nm of the electric unit. The hybrid system of the BMW i8 Roadster reaches 374 horsepower, which ensures important performance: 250 km/h of maximum speed (automated) and 4 “6 for acceleration from 0 -100. All with declared consumption of 2.1 liters/100 km in the mixed plus 14.5 kWh.
BMW i8 Roadster Battery Powered: Autonomy
It means going beyond the capacity of the battery, increased to 30 Ah and 11.6 kWh, an important novelty that characterizes i8 Roadster and i8 Coupe 2019. In the electrical mode, the speed is limited to 105 km/h, extending to 120 km/h via the eDrive selector. The driving range, however, reaches 53 km. In total, leveraging the hybrid system, are 400 km of autonomy, incrementable to 600 with the fuel tank 42 liters. The construction features of the BMW i8 Roadster, with extensive recourse to the CFRP composite, allow containing the weight in 1,595 kg, 60 kg heavier than the i8 coupe.
Among the options, BMW also proposes the Travel package, 92 liters of extra space for various objects, behind the seats, to add the 88 liters just of the boot. The 20-inch rims are also optional, such as the carbon fiber or ceramic bridge inserts. Let’s talk about charging times for lithium-ion batteries. From the 230v socket, it takes just under 4 and a half hours for a full charge; Less than 3 hours with a 16a socket, from which it takes less than 2 hours to have 80% charge.
Outwardly the two versions, Roadster and Coupé, are absolutely the same in the main features: from the LED headlights to the aerodynamic management, including the fins that extend from the protective structures behind the seats and characterize a car body with Dimensions from average coupé, seen at 4 meters and 69 inches long, on a pitch of 2 meters and 80 centimeters.
