2020 Audi Q3 Diesel MPG and Performance Engine

The 2020 Audi Q3 will exploit the modular platform of the Volkswagen Group, for greater interior space and lower weight. Price, size and much more.

Audi decided to refresh its compact SUV, Audi Q3, which for the occasion did not just rebuild the look but changed several aspects, especially from a technical point of view. New platform as a construction base, to exploit the know-how gained by the Volkswagen Group, but the watchword seems to have been spaciousness.

2020 Audi Q3 Redesign & Changes

The restyling of Audi Q3 that we can already admire has tried not to distort too much the lines of the model widely accepted on the market, but at the same time wanted to give the SUV a worse look. This is demonstrated by the air intakes on the corners of the front bumper, as well as the shape of the headlights and octagonal grille, which fully recall the family feeling of the last period of Audi, in this case, some lines that we could appreciate on the new Audi Q8.

The front headlamps, proposed in LED in three different versions, make direct torque with the rear light units with a three-dimensional effect, while a line runs along the side of the car to create a direct connection between the front and rear. A muscular character, however, that of the 2020 Audi Q3, which highlights even dynamic details such as the rear pillars very inclined forward. The whole, then, in a range of dimensions that sees increased everything except the height: 97 mm more than the previous in length, now of 4,485 meters, while 1,849 meters and 2,681 measure the width and pitch.

Interior Changes

If you talk about muscles outside, they could not even find themselves inside. It seems strange to talk about a muscular bridge, yet the idea that it offers is exactly this. The merit of the confirmation of the whole central block and of how the infotainment display was framed: a frame practically develops almost forward to the passenger to get to the switch, which is no longer a wheel but there are specific buttons. In practice it incorporates everything, even the instrumentation, and is called just Black Panel. The steering wheel, in turn, follows the latest Audi production, with a small central body and a split bottom race. There are no special inserts, such as the Alcantara.

Internally, the technological update includes the introduction of the Virtual Cockpit, the digital instrumentation that has now consolidated its presence in the range for some time, while the MMI Touch infotainment display completes all the telematics part and helps to manage the onboard systems.

Obviously, from the technological point of view there had to be an interesting upgrade for this 2020 Audi Q3, this being a new generation and having to now clash against decidedly aggressive rivals. Then we started from the introduction of the Virtual Cockpit, the digital instrumentation, already on the whole range, but starting with a 10.25-inch display that can grow up to 12.3 inches depending on the chosen installation. The infotainment system instead is based on a touchscreen display with a diagonal ranging from a minimum of 8.8 inches up to a maximum of 10.1, in combination with which there are new and updated voice commands: these also take advantage of the cloud to perform operations and more complex requests, while the browser uses the maps of the Here provider. Induction charging is not missing now one of the cornerstones of the entire new automotive production world, while on the plane assisting the driver the ADAS systems have been enhanced. Automatic parking, the Traffic Jam Assist for traffic situations as well as automatic emergency braking and the entire suite of Audi Pre Sense systems has been implemented, while the possible selectable driving modes remain unchanged.

2020 Audi Q3 Engine Specs

Initially, on the market, the new Audi Q3 will be offered with petrol and diesel engines, all four-cylinder turbo engines and with the petrol units in turn equipped with the particulate filter. The basic version of entry into the range sees the adoption of a 1.5-liter and 150-horsepower petrol engine, with a low-engine cylinder deactivation system, while the powers available for this Four-Ring SUV can reach up to 230 horsepower. At the debut of the Audi Q3, there will also be the 7-speed automatic transmission S Tronic.

On The Road

The time has finally come to sit behind the wheel of the 2020 Audi Q3 and start our road test. We open the door and we are facing a well-finished interior. The dashboard has a clean style and on three levels, the quality of the materials is of a high standard. Aesthetically it is very beautiful. In the middle stands the touch screen of considerable size, which can be 8 inches in series up to over 10 inches in optional, all surrounded by a beautiful aluminum frame. The virtual cockpit is always great, very sophisticated and customizable. Not beautiful to see the central tunnel. There is plenty of space on board, even for rear passengers: the sofa is divided into three parts and the seats are independent, so they can slide forward or backward. We turn on the engine and start.

Our car is equipped with the 150 horsepower 2.0 diesel. An engine that has a nice character but is a bit ‘lazy in recovery and low revs is not very responsive. So you have to play with the manual gearbox, even if this has not always precise grafts and you struggle with the clutch pedal. To be driven, however, this 2020 Audi Q3 has its own: the car is extremely comfortable and quiet, much improved compared to the past. It is a concrete, solid car that transmits great safety both in the test drive and in the curves, where despite its size and imposing weight it manages to be agile.

Fantastic technology on board, with the highly developed infotainment system and even better driving assistance. Good visibility with thin uprights, progressive steering gives excellent sensations. The car is rigid at the right point and absorbs the roughness of the road at its best. In short: the Audi Q3 proves a fantastic compromise between travel and driveability: it is really comfortable on board but also gives emotions at the wheel.

2020 Audi Q3 Price

The new Audi Q3 sees a starting price of 34,200 euros, but that can easily rise by virtue of the engine or the chosen equipment. We have two different entry levels depending on the engine: on the petrol side there is the 1.5-horsepower 1.5 engine, while on the diesel there is the 2-liter 150-horsepower, but at the base price of 37,500 euros.
